CONSTRUCTION OPPORTUNITIES

Blitz Build General Construction

For individuals interested in a helping those in need, fulfilling community service requirements or wanting to learn a new skill, Habitat welcomes you to the job site! Don’t have construction experience? Don’t worry, we welcome volunteers of all skill levels to the job site. Our patient and knowledgeable crew leaders will train you to perform the task of the day. If you would like to help  contact us by email (director@altavistacampbellcountyhabitat.com) or by phone (434-309-2688).

We build two homes each fall through our Blitz Build model.  In one weekend we have over 200 volunteers join us at the build site to complete two safe, decent, and affordable homes. The build is usually the third Saturday and Sunday of October.  You can stay the whole day or for a few hours.     Whether framing, hanging drywall, painting, siding, performing finish work, site cleanup or landscaping, every task contributes to getting our Partner Families into simple, decent affordable housing.

Habitat is always in need of skilled and semi-skilled volunteers.  If you have experience as a professional or are especially handy, please don’t be shy about letting us know! We will do our best to plan a task that allows you to put your time and skills to good use.

16-17 Year Olds

Youth between the age 16-17 are permitted to work on the construction site, but must be accompanied by an adult or guardian . For any volunteer under the age of 18, we offer non-construction opportunities during the Blitz Build (landscaping, volunteer registration, serving breakfast and lunch to volunteers) and Habitat’s family-friendly activities offer abundant opportunities for volunteers of all ages to make a difference.

Community Service

We are happy to help you fulfill your community service requirement. Prior to your build shift, let us know why you are seeking community service hours. Plus, you are responsible for having a community service hours tracking form signed by a staff member at the end of each day.

Group Volunteering

Building a house together on the job site is a great way to build relationships within your group while helping to address the affordable housing crisis in our community. Whether you are a group of employees looking for a team-building experience, an organization or church, we want to work with you!
